The Centre for Relationships in Serious Illness

Understanding and promoting human connection in serious illness care.

Research

The mission of CERES is to advance the science and practice of high-quality relationship-building between people affected by serious illness and their care providers.

We are a research centre located in the Department of Family Medicine at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. Our lab members include palliative care physicians, researchers, and students - we take a multidisciplinary, living lab approach to science, so that what we're doing can more easily make its way from development to pilot implementation, to positively impact the patients and providers we serve.

Improving doctor-patient relationships - the driving focus of most of our research - involves investigating and prioritizing communication and connection, through knowledge gathering, clinician training, and information support for both patients and providers.
