THE CENTRE FOR RELATIONSHIPS IN SERIOUS ILLNESS (CERES) STUDENTSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS COMPETITION
2026 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The CERES is pleased to announce the call for applications to the 2026 CERES Collaborative Research Studentship for McGill graduate students (MSc/PhD). The goal of this support is to foster collaborative research between members of the CERES lab by providing partial support for a full-time trainee.
Eligibility and Guidelines. Applicants from all faculties and departments at McGill are eligible to apply. Graduate and postdoctoral trainees must pursue their studies full time at McGill at the time of the application. Trainees must be supervised or co-supervised by a member of CERES lab. A maximum of two applicants is allowed per PI/investigator. Projects must address a topic relevant to relationships in the context of serious illness, with priority given to those that address one of the center’s main themes of interpersonal, intra-personal, and system-level interventions focused on understanding and improving relationship quality for people affected by serious illness. Awardees are required to present their research findings at the 2027 Department of Family Medicine Academic Day and an MUHC Research Day.
Evaluation Criteria. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of:
-
The scientific excellence of the proposed research project, the synergy of the investigators supervising the project, and its relevance to the CERES themes;
-
Trainee’s academic excellence including transcripts, publications/presentations, awards, past research experience;
-
Supervisor’s statement of support, collaboration and resources for the project.
Value and Duration of Award. Support is for a one-year period (non-renewable); two to three awards of $10,000-15,000 each (from total $30,000 fund) will be offered. The remaining trainee stipend should be provided by the supervisor. Should the trainee receive another award of greater value than the CERES award, the CERES support must be declined. Awards will start no earlier than July 15, 2025.
Deadline and Notification. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2026. Candidates must complete and submit the application form with all supporting documentation merged into one pdf and emailed to the CERES lab at ceres.lab.mcgill@gmail.com. Applicants will be notified at the end of June 2026.
